This Sony DSR-450 has got to be the closet thing to being new but still being classified as used there is. I purchased the camera new from B&H Photo probably a year and a half ago for a specific project. It was used almost exclusively as a studio camera with a teleprompter on a limited basis. This project involved creating nine 30—45 minute educational units at Penn State University. The 450 accounted for the on-camera portion of the project. When you add up the time this camera probably only has about 30—40 hours of total use. It doesn’t get closer to new than this. B&H Photo has a used version of this camera selling for $6,500 in condition 8+. This camera has to be a 9+. I’m also including a battery charger and two Varizoom batteries—again, hardly used. I’m also including a wide angle lens. Everything is packed in an older Sony Betacam hard-shell case for shipping. This camera shoots in 16:9 so it’s perfect for web movies and broadcasts and so much more. With accessories this camera costs around $15,000 new. The lens is a Canon YJ20×8.5. Zoom ratio: 20x. In addition to its widescreen shooting capability it also can be switched from conventional NTSC 30 frame recording to the 24 frame “digital cinema” recording format. The unit has a built-in 2.5″ LCD monitor, a Memory Stick slot for scene file storage, an 8-pin remote control port for using camera control boxes like the RM-B150 and the crucial battery-remaining display function. Optional boards exist for SDI output and Composite Video input. • Viewfinder and LCD Monitor The DSR-450WSL has both an LCD screen and a conventional 1.5″ black and white ENG style viewfinder. The data can also be transmitted via network or even E-mail. Service and software updates can be facilitated in this manner as well. • Full DSP Functions The DSR-450WSL has an advanced 30-bit DSP for the most stable and precise images possible. The digital signal processor allows the user to customize picture looks for specific shooting requirements. The TruEye feature keeps contrast levels looking natural even in extreme lighting conditions. Skin Tone Detail can check color and contrast in three parameters for special shooting requirements. The Black Stretch/Compress feature lets the user dial in special high or low contrast looks. • Interval Record Feature The DSR-450WSL finally integrates a intervalometer for time lapse photography. The interval record feature allows you to compress long time periods into short video clips. Anyone who has ever seen a flower sprout, grow and bloom in a minute or the entire construction of a house in a very truncated period knows the beauty of the intervalometer.
