You have heard the rumours and read the reviews so let me tell you friends....believe the hype!! OMG! The AF system is blistering fast with pin-point accuracy capturing images that are simply stunning with bokeh that looks like dreamy water colors spread evenly behind your subject. The build and quality is SECOND TO NONE with great balance for intuitive handling on and off a tripod. I have used this lens for 90% of my professional work over the past 24 months and has produced images REGULARLY PUBLISHED in Magazines and News Papers across the globe so rest assured this 'gal has history and a proved track record!! Expect the best from this lens either stopped down or wide open it will cause buyers remorse and depression.....you will go home and toss your 300 f2.8 in the cabinet to collect dust! Once you go to F 2.0 there is NO GOING BACK! Snicker at your peers with their F 2.8 at ISO 800 while you are "nailing shots" wide open at F 2.0 at 320iso at 1/800...hand-held of course!! with that VR steady rock'n you will become addicted and religiously converted as your shooting days become longer and more satisfied with so many more stops to let that waning light into that massive front element!! Don't listen to the fools who tell you there isn't a big difference between 2.8 and 2.0. There is a HUGE difference and everyone who owns this lens will tell you how dramatic this is when using a telephoto lens for sports, photojournalism, editorial, portraits etc. I regularly used this lens with a Nikon 1.4 and 2x teleconverter and the result is staggering! There is some bizarre optical synergy created because at times I swore the images were as good if not better. With a 1.4 teleconverter the result is a 340mm with a reduction of 1 f stop!! You do that math on that one? CONDITON: The lens is in EXCELLENT condition with minor cosmetic wear. There are some small nicks at the end of the barrel where the hood mounts on the second rim. It has been completely covered in Pro ShureTape (Gaffers Tape) with a lens coat to avoid any brassing or wear on the paint, markings or switches. Thus, the rubber as you can see is in TOP shape as the over finish (even without wear) The tripod SCREW has normal wear but as you can see the foot itself (was protected) has no sign of being mounted etc. It threads smoothly and without any problems Lens mount has lots of BITE (sorry for the previous typo for those who read this before May 9th) and has been recently inspected by Nikon and the Pin Contacts are BRAND NEW (see below note) The Glass is free of defect or blemish and is in perfect condition always cleaned with Nikon Brand lens Anti Fog lens cleaner and Microfiber cloth. This lens has NEVER BEEN DROPPED OR IMPACTED OR COMPROMISED MECHANICALLY OR ENVIRONMENTALLY EVER!! It has NEVER EVER been abused or handled by an amateur. Storage was in a low-moisture climate controlled studio inside a Pelican case. NOTE: The lens was returned from NIKON Inc THURSDAY APRIL 29th 2010 after having a FULL INSPECTION AND B2 SERVICE.
