Vintage Hand Crank Mitchell Standard 35mm Movie Camera

Vintage Hand Crank Mitchell Standard 35mm Movie Camera

Click here to see the auction. Currently $3150.00.

Here is a Mitchell Standard 35mm Professional Motion Picture Camera. This camera is serial number 167, and was originally purchased in 1929 by FOX STUDIOS. This is not only THE nicest antique Mitchell camera I have seen, it is the nicest antique movie camera of any type I have ever scene. This camera has everything I look for in antique motion picture equipment. It is in unbelievable original condition with all matching serial numbers. The L-base, The camera body and all interiors have the the same number as well as the camera movement! The original wrinkle finish paint is still on it and all parts have a beautiful patina throughout. The truest rarety on this camera is that it still has all of the layers of special effects equipment intact when this camera was purchased, and it all works perfect. For example, the moveable mattes(vertical and horizontal) are still intact as is the coveted and oh so rare floating "Effects Iris". Of coarse used for the "iris in and iris out" effect at the beginning and end of a scene. The iris moves so smooth and the horizontal and vertical device to move the iris within the film frame works flawlessly. Also this camera still has the original MASK WHEEL with the binocular, keyhole, 2 different ovals masks as well as more vertical and horizontal masks and the telescope mask. It is very rare to have even one of these features intact let alone to have them all. Also inside the critical focusing finder, it still has the BLUE GLASS contrast filter. This was a great aid to cameramen. I have never seen a Mitchell camera from the silent era so complete. Someone is going to end up with an extraordinary display item that can also shoot. It still cranks over smooth and solid and has a great feeling to it that makes me realize why these cameras were $5,000. in 1929. This may not sound like much now, but in 1929 the average price of a HOUSE was $2500. dollars, so $5,000. dollars for a movie camera is incredibly expensive in 1929. These cameras were truly the absolute state of the art camera for 40 years. It it difficult enough to find an antique movie camera, but to find one that is named to a MAJOR MOVIE STUDIO from the silent era is just incredible. This was purchased by FOX STUDIOS on february 18th, 1929. It staggers my mind as to what great movies were filmed with this camera as Fox was such a major player in Hollywood. THE PHOTOS DO NOT DO THIS CAMERA JUSTICE! I just added a photo of the attachement that controls the rising and falling lens. This will let you adjust the lens 15 degrees up or down for extreme tilting without distorting the image??? Also a photo of the MASK DISC so you can see all 10 functions of this most cool option. One of the best options on this disc was the full aperaure spot where you could slide in single frame that was cut out so you could do matched shots for speecial effects work. These were great options for the cameramen. This camera really did have it all. Here is a list of what we have: Mitchell Standard Camera #167. Alll original. Comes with mint MITCHELL SIDEFINDER. Comes with one 35mm Baltar( I am told and believe) lens. Very nice glass and iris moves smooth. Also has Pl mount for more modern lenses, and an empty Mitchell mount for you to put in any lens you like. 1 mint condition 400 ft. magazine. Also comes with an original vintage Mitchell crank. This outfit also comes with the VINTAGE MITCHELL FRICTION HEAD AND ORIGINAL VINTAGE MITCHELL WOOD TRIPOD. Also comes with a vintage Mitchell Mattebox and lens shade. The only issue is the the iris rod clamp is a later version and does not fit as it should but still screws on to be able to use. Anyhow, This is truly an awsome looking set up that would really look fantastic in the office of any motion picture company or in any home theater. Buyer pays shipping costs. please wait to hear from me for accurate shipping costs as ebay is mixed up. Best of luck. If you have further questions, or you want to make an offer, please feel free to phone me at 617-999-0364, ask for Michael. This is a Paypal only auction. It is worldwide(except no ukraine or singapore, sorry). Please ask questions before bidding as this is sold as an antique, and all sales are final. No 0 feedbacks. Payment within 48 hours please.

Calkovsky~Owner~CALKOVSKY Cameras and Lenses~ christexalted@hotmail.com~707-658-2628 The Debrie Parvo was a 35mm motion picture camera developed in France by Joseph Jules Debrie, in 1908. The camera was relatively compact for its time. It was hand cranked, as were its predecessors. To aid the camera operator in cranking at the correct speed, the camera had a built in tachometer. The Parvo held up to 120 meters of film (approximately 400 ft) inside without the need for an external film magazine, yielding almost 6 minutes of film when cranked at the standard 16 frames per second silent film rate. It allowed the camera operator to focus the camera lens but - as all other cine cameras of its era - had a side optical viewfinder to be used during actual filming. The Parvo was immensely popular in Europe during the silent film era, straight through the 1920's. Directors who particularly liked the camera were Abel Gance, Leni Riefenstahl, and Sergei Eisenstein. The latter's cinematographer, Eduard Tisse, would use the camera into the sound era, i.e. filming the duelling sequence in Alexander Nevsky.
